« on: November 21, 2013, 20:08:30 »
I seem to be getting a plague of Trojan Horses.

Are other people being notified about them on a frequently basis at the moment?

I have not recently however I would suggest scanning your computer with malwarebytes free version just to make sure nothing has slipped past your anti virus and is causing it which I have found has happened in the past.

It is likely that you are a victim of scamware or scareware.  This is basically malware that asks you to pay to get rid of "Trojans" which you don't have.
If your PC were really infected then your AV software should be leaping into action or you PC would be compromised but this sounds like you have popups screaming Trojans at you which is more likely to be scareware..

No matter - solution is simple - Do as daveyboi says and download/run malwarebytes

My software says it is dealing with it.  But it seems to be having to sort things out five or six times everyday.

It particularly seems to be happening every time I get a pop up that I have not renewed Norton.

I have sent a message to Norton telling them I am charging them £5 every time I have to clear one of their messages and surprise surprise so far it has all stopped.   And my computer is working much much better.

It would appear that Norton might still have control of my computer several months after I have changed to a different product.

Unless you are hanging out on Russian hacking sites there is no way that you should be getting that many AV notices..
Have you completely uninstalled Norton?

I'd still run malwarebytes - something sounds off..

Hi, sorry I can't remember the exact details but Norton is a sod to completely get rid of. Seem to remember it was quite a laborious process and had to Google for help. When you install it they leave something behind that means you get these pop ups etc. I'm sure some of the more techy guys on here will be able to help.
I agree with getting maladaware installed. I used to have loads of problems with messages saying you have accessed so and so and this is the police pay so much to get your computer working. This was a scam and with maladaware this no longer happens. Run it alongside Mcafee and have no problems now

Many thanks for your help folks.  I have gone with Avast but unfortunately it does not get rid of Norton.

What worries me is that somehow someone gets hold of the fact you have finished with Norton and then launches attacks.
