After the failure rates in recent years of PSB due to colder winter and flooded plots, it seems to be a really good idea to redefine what sprouting broccoli is by recreating a new type that is better adapted to British winter weather.

Another case where going away from very tightly defined 'uniform' crops to genetically much broader based 'landrace' types is a very good plan, especially for gardeners.  These 'new' PSBs may have far more variation, but also far better adaptation and survival rates.  Better outcomes for gardeners and small commercial growers who don't combine-harvest a whole field at once.

How does this type of breeding fit in with current EU seed legislation which demands DUS (distinctiveness, uniformity and genetic stability)?  It would not currently be permissible to sell those seeds because of this legislation!   :BangHead:

Interesting article.
