I share my plot with an idiot.
« on: August 23, 2013, 21:33:41 »
A rant and request for advice.

I rent an allotment and half of a nearby plot to keep my chickens on.
About a month ago the fellow allotmenteer I share with, for who knows what reason, decided to cut two branches off the old but very productive Victoria plum tree.
Yesterday I arrived at the plot to find that the only remaining branch had snapped off.
I'm very very cross. The tree is on my half of the plot although he and his father did plant it decades ago.
Rant over.

Is there anything I can do to salvage the fruit?.........they are nowhere ready to pick but it's so annoying to watch so much fruit go to waste.

Thanks.
Wizpod.

What a shame, butchering it like that will send it into shock and it will send up loads of non fruiting water shoots now :BangHead:
You could try picking the fruit and putting it in a sunny place, but I am sure that you have thought of that.

Sour plum sauce? I can't vouch for it but it's been on my list for a while. Some ideas here:

Plus a shovel, with which you can smack the idiot over the head.

How annoying. What was he doing on you plot. Do you pay rent for it or is it just a mutual disagreement.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Thanks all.
I'm feeling calmer now.

I've picked all the fruit, [  four of those big brown bread basket trays ] and a wheelbarrow of damaged fruit for the compost bins.]  I've left two trays to dry and possibly ripen a bit in a dry place and put the rest near our glut box for others to share, with copies of the recipes, thanks Ollie.
Leicester will be awash with sour plum sauce and green plum chutney.

I do pay rent for the half plot, and provide him with fresh eggs, but he is the owner, elderly and set in his ways, so basically does what he likes.

His excuses so far are............
He didn't do it.
It's his tree.
It's very old.
He couldn't sit and watch the chickens because the tree was in his way !

I suspect the whole tree will be gone in a few days............I think he just likes bonfires.

Once again thanks.

Best to move on but we can understand how frustrated you feel. If he wanted to chop it down he should have asked you first.

Small consolation but you have a new recipe.

There have been a number of threads in the past about problems with shared plots, I am not sure they work.

The only person I've known who's tried it had a string of complaints.

I shared a friend's plot for a couple of years and we were both happy with the arrangement, though he let me take the tenancy over for my half in the end so that I had some security of tenure.

A couple of long poles should do the job, one through his sleeves and one down his trouser leg into the ground and tell him he can watch the Chickens all day whilst scaring the crows.   :drunken_smilie:
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.
