yellow tips on garlic leaves
« on: March 12, 2005, 18:00:41 »
My autumn planted garlic has recently developed yellowing on the lower leaves.  Is this normal? The plot next door seems to have it too but it seems to be speading up the leaves on mine.  Its a clay soil, the plot hadn't been cultivated for about two years beforehand and I didn't put any fertilizer or anything in before planting.  Am I being paranoid?

I often get it. Don't know a remedy. But possibly, if you have lots, lift one & check for white rot.

Then use it as green garlic. Lovely!

Been reading up.  Several sources say possible nitrogen deficiency which might make sense since the weeds that were on that patch are still on the compost heap, probably with all the nitrogen!  Perhaps some seaweed meal might help?
