I have just dug up the first crop of my Arran Pilot spuds and unlike most first earlies I have grown before they seem very hard and dense when cooked and eaten. Is that the variety or is it the hot dry weather? Or something else?

A bit of both.... Pilot is pretty waxy and two weeks of sunshine will have made it more so
