Nice pic. But I am confused looks like a lizard to me. I thought newts have webbed feet and only four toes.

Though they do spend quite a lot of year out of water. Great crested newts have orange under belly but it is illegal to touch them. But we have ponds on three sides of site.

That's a common lizard; newts don't have scales. Put it back where you found it and let it hibernate in peace.
