My new cloches for next year - cheap as chips!
« on: August 06, 2012, 23:13:07 »
Last Spring I saw net meat covers for 99p and thought they would be good to use as cloches. I bought three and found they were excellent for protecting small veggie plants when first planted out. They've been washed and are now in the shed awaiting next year. This morning, however, I was outside the same store (one of those that sell all kinds of stuff in seaside towns) and saw much larger models 55cm as against the ones I bought which were 30cm. They are much taller too (30 cm in the centre) and cost £1.89. I bought four to give my squash plants longer protection from snails next Spring.

Just thought I'd share.............

I always use those for any brassicas that are planted after Spring to stop the fly getting them while they are small
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Got two for 99p in 99p shop.  Will do a couple of brassicas.  Not sure quite how to pin them down, need them with bits of wire sticking out the bottom.

Not found any 55cm ones by the time you add the postage the ones on ebay are quite expensive.

I cut a short length of wire, make a 'U' to pin the corners down and push some soil along the sides. Works for me! I use the same wire to pin down strawberry runners later in the season.

Length of cane with a hole drilled through at a 'strong point' and a piece of wire pushed through after the cake tent has been pushed into place?

Cheers,    Tony.?
