maggots/caterpillars
« on: February 26, 2005, 13:08:04 »
on the allotment this morning, i checked on the condition of the leaf spinach to see how it has fared throughout the cold and snow.
some leaves were frost damaged, but a whole lot of them had been eaten to bits by caterpillars. i saw one or two, no idea what kind they are.

how come they are not dug in somewhere, keeping snug? i never expected activity this early in the year, especially as we have had frosts and snow the last couple of days.....

Hi Svea, I had to deal with some on my winter kale and on top of sprouts a couple ofweeks ago .
Things are changing when caterpillars are appearing in JAN/FEB .
Can anyone tell me have  they overwintered  without turning into chryalises  or have they hatched out  lately .Surely it has ben too cold for butterfiles in last few weeks... cheers Jim
Cheers .. Jim
