Or is this another British Goverment Cosmetic Cover-up!! 8)

i dont think a ban was necessary.
it is up to each individual to decide whether they wish to participate in it or not (i wouldn't).

to me, this is a) an example of the increasing nanny-ing in the UK ::) and b) it is cosmetic only as done purely to gain some swing votes for the pending election.

I agree with Svea, no matter what your actual views on hunting are it should be the choice of the individual what they do.

Especially when media interest has seemed to play such a huge part in this so called legislation, when thousands of people seem to think they know what they are talking about from reading a few reports in the papers on what hunting is about.

Firstly, I don't have a lottie and secondly, no I've never killed a slug :)

Anything should be up to the individual....but ONLY if no-one or nothing else is hurt or otherwise inconvenienced. i mean, some people choose to burgle peopls' houses. That is their choice. Don't make it right, do it?

Also, quite apart from the death of the fox at the end of the hunt, what about all the pets that are killed by the pack of hounds?

Yes, there is too much nannying in this country, and there are far too many laws. But kiling animals for sport (SPORT, I ask you) is sick and should be illegal.

I agree. A point I was trying to put across. Killing pests in the countryside which have the potential to cause harm elsewhere is one thing - participating for pleasure in a sport where defenceless animals are ripped to shreds is another. It's inexcusable.

At the end of the day Its what we once called Nature!!

The only pests and this is purely a Personel view[ my own]
its the Hunters and not the Hunted!!!!!!!!! ::)

Should a Farmer choose to Kill a Fox to protect his Sheep-Lambs or Fowls thats another issue I would say!!

Then we have the Pests........ from insecticides and Pesticides
Does this upset the Balance of Nature...............SURELY
it must do...............then Genetic Engineering................
were do the Pests Stop ??? ??? ??? ???

I guess some forms of nature will always be a pest to somebody but to eradicate the problem does not automatically mean one has to be inhumane to do so.

animals dont have rights - only those we choose to bestow upon them on their behalf.
so it's inhumane to kill a fox, but we squash beetles and spiders etc? do only cute animals have 'rights', then?

and like Svea says which was my original point about killing slugs.

None of which is relevant to the original question of if the legislation is any good or not :)

Yes, I can see why scientific studies would be needed to determine whether ripping an animal apart is humane or not. ::)

Hi Everyone, What is the problems with fox hunting ---- the chase it self, people living in the country dont mind because we know what damage a fox can do to live stock, wild animals, and home pets given the fox a chance, the BIG problem i have to it is, after the ten mile chase when the fox goes to ground (down a hole to hide) it get dug out by the master of the hunt and them thrown to the pack of dogs, as this give the dogs more encouragement to hunt and track better, a bigger problem is when foxes are brouht from other area and chased, not knowing where to run or hide, so fox hunting -its a good thing that the law on hunting has been turned upside down, i say -- ban the Lords of the Manors and all the people who ride with them who think there Lords,

My two pennies worth...

I certainly don't like the way the fox is killed... but I would pose the question..

Is it really all about the fox?

I believe it is an attack on the lifestyle of the landed gentry plus all those who choose to participate.
If it was about cruelty to animals then surely at the same time as banning fox hunting they should include shooting and fishing.
Is the reason that fishing wasn't included the fact that working class people (mainly labour supporters) are the bulk of the people who fish?

IF THEY MUST DO IT THEN INCLUDE 'ALL' CRUEL SPORTS

That's done it...probably upset half the forum now
