You could have knocked me down with a feather!!
« on: March 10, 2012, 05:26:03 »
Wow.. :o

Today I was at the hospital for some lung function tests and got the % of how my lungs are functioning, the specialist I saw was advising me on medications etc to improve the function and also was assisting me with other ways to help, losing weight was one but he agreed that with my level of pain and mobility it is difficult. I am maintaining my weight of the past few years, not putting more on  but I am doing so by eating very little, if I eat more with my level of mobility I would gain...then the bombshell came  " you need to use marijuana" ::)

I thought he was kidding and asked" how on earth will that help my breathing?" ???

" It won't " he said, " but it will help with your pain level and make moving and excersise much easier"

I couldn't believe my ears, but he was serious and suggested I think about it. He further suggested that I use it in baked goods rather than smoking it which could be a problem for my breathing.

At my age.. does it mean I have to  I don a sheepskin jacket, part my hair down the middle and wear flowers in it,or can I  bake my brownies as I lean on my elbow crutches.

The mind boggles..  :D :D

It is legal in Canada for medicinal purposes for some things and he said I am allowed to grow my own.

Maybe  I should put this thread in the swap section.. ;D ;D ;D

Reggae music is a lovely rhythm to garden with ;D. Seriously though it does benefit some illnesses. I tried it when my knee was at its worse and I don't know if it helped but my wife said it put me in a more relaxed and better mood.

I had a friend who has sadly passed on but she had MS and would smoke and eat it all the time. She swore that it helped her to endure the illness. It is the misuse of the drug that is the problem. The same as morphine is used for pain relief, no problem, but  it is a curse when misused.

;D ;D ;D Wow, indeed ;D...I've always wanted to grow some 'weed'..not to use, but just for sake of 'ticking a box' and able to say 'been there and done that'.
Sorry dear..I would love to 'swap'  some seeds with you but I ain't having none of them in my seedboxes..well, not in my knowledge, unless somebody has substituted 'wrong' seeds in swap.. :-\
Are you going to have a go growing some?

I think there was talk of researching &  isolating the the chemical in it that aids pain relief but until then go for Jeannine ;D. Quality of life is so important & well done on maintaining your weight.

I don't know what I am going to do truthfully, I just can't stop laughing..it would raise an eyebrow or two here on pot luck days and you all know how I like to share, half the old gals in my building would probably benefit from a bit... maybe I will make brownies and we can all have a great knees up !!

Just kidding

I think "we" grew some by accident a few years back. Would it have been included in wild birdseed?

Just as well - can't be doing with blue-flashing lights outside.
It would disturb the neighbours.  ;)

Well the good news is that Cannabis (Don't like the word marijuana. It has racist overtones) never hurt anybody in over 10,000 years of recorded use. So one thing you can be sure of, it is safe.  ;)
Cannabis is actually available here in the UK and in Canada and quite a few other countries as an orally-taken spray called Sativex which is, despite the blurb trying to make it seem otherwise, a full-plant extract with nothing added except some alcohol as a propellant and a little peppermint extract to taste.
Cannabis works to help alleviate pain without a doubt. It also helps with a variety of ailments and is currently showing some pretty astonishing results and plenty of promise in mankinds fight against cancer, and not just the symptoms, but actual cancer itself.
I could go on for hours. I would too if it would help. :)
I'm glad your doctor has the sense to see past the phoney 'war on drugs' propaganda, and I'm sure you'll benefit from the use of this fanastic plant.
Happy daze Jeannine... happy daze. lol  :P

If its going to help Jeannine its certainly worth a try. It is a great medicinal plant, unfortunately abusing this and other marvelous plants (opiates ) have caused such a problem for those folk who benefit most from using them sensibly.

I echo what Nigel says though........happy daze  ;D ;D ;D

I am going to discuss it with my Dr. Jonathan is usually pretty forward thinking so he may well prescribe it.

I still can't stop laughing though. I guess I just can't get the hippy picture out of my head, young folks in funny clothes puffing away, then I put my wrinkly face in the clothes and I burst out laughing.

It has certainly cheered me up as the lung tests were not so good, but maybe if I join the "happy daze gang" I won't care.

I will keep you informed...

Done that, parents not impressed........

I think seeds are still legal over here it's just growing it thats not ::)

It can be a great painkiller so if you're happy with the idea go for it.
A space? I need more plants......more plants? I need some space!!!!

Ninny, I adore flowers and always had them in my home garden but I never seem to have enough space on the plots.

I have a friend in Colorado who suffers with arthritis. She has a cannabis licence and takes it in the form of pills. She was telling me that she can obtain it in various forms - including powder to add to baking recipes or add to other food Jeannine! In the U.S. it is not legal in some States so she has to be careful when she travels - she is going to Spain in June and will stop taking her daily dose a few days before she goes so that she won't attract the sniffer dogs at airports en route!

Thanks for info Tricia, I would be very obliged if you are in contact with her if you would mind asking her if she feels stoned when she uses it, that is ther main worry I have.  If you think it Ok to ask her.

Ninny you are a sweetheart and I promise you, in fact I double promise you I will sow some flowers on my plot this year just for you..  Oh I feel a buying mood coming over me...
