Wiki History of Allotments - fyi
« on: March 04, 2012, 09:27:35 »
For those who are interested in the history of allotments I have added several new references to the wiki page entitled History of Allotments ...

Links to Local Allotment Site Histories - the most recent addition is a link to Reading Allotments  http://readingallotments.wordpress.com/

Allotment Gardens: A Reflection of History, Heritage, Community and Self is a paper by Lesley Acton who completed a PhD on allotments. This link was recently distributed by NSALG to its members ... http://pia-journal.co.uk/article/view/pia.379/439

The book Breaking New Ground is the fruits of research work on allotments in the period 1793-1873 which was carried out by the Family and Community Historical Research Society (FACHRS). Details can be found at this link ...http://www.fachrs.com/pages/admin/bookshop.htm ... and this link lists the chapter headings ... http://www.fachrs.com/images/allotments/bng_c_and_preface.pdf

The book is not what you would call "an easy read" but it is a rewarding read if you are interested in the history of allotments.
