Hard to fasten zip?
« on: December 28, 2011, 13:25:52 »
I have bought a beautiful pair of PURPLE ankle boots that have a side zip. I am finding it hard to fasten all the way & seem to remember from I don't know where that the best way is to rub a pencil along the zip. Can anyone tell if I am right please. I would hate to damage them in case I have to return them. I did think of WD40 buy worried in case it stained them.

I would say rubbing a Pencil along the zip is the way to go, Pencil leads tend to be graphite based, :)

Agree with Mr Smith, have had to use that method on more than one occasion.

My Dad used candles or hard clear soap along zips.

If it doesn't work try WD40 on a cotton bud stick thingy.   :D

If you can find silicone spray its cleaner than an oil spray.  I think it's better than WD40.

Think pencil is better on metal zips. Don't blame wanting to wear them I am a purple freak as well ;D

Just mentioned this post about zips on boots to the Mrs, but the only thing I got was a smack, I only said she had fat ankles, ;D

Thank you again folks. Still haven't decided which way to go. WD40 is missing. I told OH if ever he used it it must be put straight back in the cupboard under the sink as ha has lot 2 cans of the stuff. I guess he now has lost 3.

Marg you would love these ;), they are purple suede & leather Hush Puppies. I have a pair of Clarke's purple shoes but not as comfy as I thought they would be. HP were half price from BrandAlley. I also have some purple gardening gloves buy I don't want to get them dirty ;D ::).

Mr Smith I am shocked ;D.

"I'm a WD40 Addict and it's been 3 months since I gotta fix"........ ;D ;D ;D

However, for these zippers, I'd use either a pencil OR a candle.

Purple boots? Green with envy, here!

The wife had a pair of boots like this for Christmas. I told her to get them changed, and she's very happy with the replacements.
