Itching to get started -
I would say in your situation sowing now and covering with a fleece tunnel would be ideal. Sow a variety such as 'Aquadulce Claudia' which is often used for late autumn and winter sowing in the milder localities. Uncover them when the weather become more clement in March. Set some simple bated spring traps in the tunnel for those mice that may be about even this time of the year.
An alternative would be to sow singly in small pots on a cold room windowsill and plant out in approximately six weeks time. Or sow in pots in a cold frame.

Totaly agree, aquadulce will be fine now and then sow your main crop variety around mid March.
Leave the spuds a few weeks yet though.
