Pumpkin stem has split
« on: September 24, 2011, 18:01:08 »
The runner just near the stem on my only decent-sized pumpkin has split.

The pumpkin is still attached to the main stem, but only just.  Is there anything I can do?

On smaller fruit, I've brought the split surfaces together and bound them tightly with something like elastoplast tape that has a bit of stretch in it so that you can pull it really tight.

Hi.

I think you need to cut the tap roots either side of your fruit on the main vine. As the fruit has grown, the vine needs to lift up with it. I suspect that it has split because it has become under stress.
