Well that was fun
« on: August 21, 2011, 21:50:22 »
I opened a Dreamweaver zip file, and before my PC defences could react, the Katusha.B.Pak swarmed all over it, and despite fighting rearguard action, it actually killed the MBR on the hard drive, which is a fatal error.

I lost all data and software, it took me nearly two hours to get the PC to boot up, and ive spent 20 hours ploughing through hundreds of CD's finding copies of sofware and keys for them.

What really annoys me is the data ive lost, i deliberately kept it on a separate drive, and this virus actually jumped discs and corrupted the MBR on the secondary drive as well. Ive lost hundreds of word documents, videos collected over many months, language lessons,  images, archives files, web stuff, just gigabytes of work.

I really ponder the point of this virus. You can under stand a virus that steals your id or your bank details, ie its there to defraud you, bu this virus just trashes your machine.  Id love five minutes alone with the sick little **** who wroteit.
Nothing is ever as it seems. With appropriate equations I can prove this.

Lincsyokel2,
What is a dreamweaver zip file. How would I know what to look for so I don't get this nasty on my computer? What were you doing when it attacked?

Oh dont panic. Dreamweaver is software used to make web pages. I was trying to find a very old version to do something specific, and  i had been trawling software archives sites. I found a copy but despite having fairly stiff defences this thing just swept across the machine, in 20 years in IT ive never seen anything like it, it was savage.

I think it unlikely you'll come across it, cos you wont be going where i went and fetching the file i did,. Its probably sat in that file in that archive for  five years or more, just waiting.
