Where are my currants?
« on: July 24, 2011, 16:17:04 »
About a month ago, I started to rave (on this site as well!) about the appearance of my first red and black currants.  Well, pride before a fall, because since picking the first fruit (about 50 berries), there hasnt been a glimmer of any more.  They appeared at the very bottom of the bush.  Since then, we've had plenty of rain (not much warmth - but enough), and the bushes (one of each for red and black) look healthy enough.  Any thoughts?

many thanks for all the comments

The blossom comes first & that forms in the Spring so that's it for this year. You'll get more next year. Ours are 4 years old this year & we picked, sorry, OH picked 18lbs of fruit from blackcurrants. Redcurrants tomorrow.

Planted up a fruit cage back end of last year.  White currants by the squillion but very few blacks and reds.  Let's see next year.    Cheers,    Tony.
