My beans are drying slowly, but it'll take time.

I've everything just about ready..all bagged up and now there is lots and lots of labels to write.. ::)
Poor hand..
Anyway..I've ended up bagging some Yamato 3 feet cucumbers, Mexican tomatoes, Skånsk Märgart and Mammoth Melting Sugar Snow peas..not quite what I originally 'promised'..but I hope those would do?

I've got everything ready but the beans. They'll probably be a couple of weeks yet as I need to let them get properly dry.

Rather than double post here’s a link to the other seed circle, post 443 http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/smf/index.php/topic,64431.440.html .
As with the other group I sent pm’s second week of October to some of the group who hadn’t been on the thread for a while. I’ve had no word back from Mark S.
It looks like our group stands at 10.

Please let me know if it is any different. Galina sensibly suggested last year we include 1 extra of each variety in case of mishap which takes us to 11. I hope this is manageable for everyone.

I can manage 11 lots - I won't include anything I don't have enough of - do you want everything bagged in 11 sets?

Is anyone else planning to offer Trail of Tears bean? I don't have that many bean seeds, but I can manage T of T for this group if someone else can (hopefully) offer them to the other.

I'll send some just for this swap then. Same goes for Black Magic runner beans since I only have a limited quantity. I'll be able to plant a lot more beans next year.

Mine are still being sorted. Next few days; I'm waiting for a delivery of plastic envelopes for the small seeds.

Sorry to have been a bit uncommunicative over the last few months, both of my elderly parents have been ill at the same time and we have had very little spare brain time between work, allotment, and trying to keep them happy and comfortable.

Fortunately we have had a good crop of Alaskan Fancy, Yin Yang beans, and Cherokee Trail of Tears beans.  I bagged them up last night and managed to totally spell trail wrong on all the packs  ::)  So those of you who get trial of tears are not getting anything unusual other than a half asleep Ophi being dyslexic many times with her pen.

I notice that the Trail of Tears beans have been offerred by other people and am quite happy for them to be donated to something or other if they are not required.

I will be toddling to the Post Office at lunch time to send them on their way.

We grew the Alaskan Fancy outdoors in dents filled with compost in a top layer  (over our not too well worked clay) of about six inches of stable sweepings.  I planted 20 seeeds (which I thought was a very small amount to receive), all 20 germinated, and were planted.  They grew into very sturdy dense two foot bushes that fruited like a dream.  They mostly came ripe in September and we produced about 15 portions of slices in the freezer as ingredient for my favourite curry, 30 double portions of pasta sauce for my and sons freezer, 11 bottles of a very nice green tomato sauce, rather too many jars of green tomato chutney, quite a few green tomato cakes, my son made fresh soup, and we gave more than I can remember away for various recipes.  I think that in a year with a better summer you might get a better succession of ripening.

The Yin Yang beans were planted straight in the soil a bit later in the season than the climbing type beans and ripened and dried on the plants much quicker than the taller varieties.  I kept most of them for seed as I only planted about 18 plants and was planning to grow my stock and share.

I am hoping that my first attempt at saving seed grows for you and very much looking forward to trying the different varieties that you have kindly grown for me.

Thank you.  My youngest son is well impressed with the idea of swapping seeds.  He had not realised you could do this.   :)

What a year Ophi and thank you for sharing your experiences. I've not grown Alaskan Fancy, so it is lovely to read your first hand recommendation  :)
I really hope youv'e enjoyed the experience and find some new favorites in the crops we share  :)
