Onions sets?
« on: June 28, 2011, 07:37:58 »
I would like the name of a good, reliable supplier to get my over-wintering onions from. Could anyone advise?
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

I just go into Dobbies and buy what I want.

Mind you, I got some extras this year when they were  greatly reduced a week or so after the last planting date. When I was shopping for normal onion sets

The cheap ones caught up and are now ready for picking at exactly the same stage as the ones which have been in all winter. The ones planted in Spring are also big enough to use so I am not sure I will bother with over wintering again. It just causes extra weeding.

Noticed that last year too, that the overwintering ones were not ready that much sooner to make the task of maintaining the area worth the hassel.
