What to plant after potatoes have been lifted?
« on: June 12, 2011, 21:17:22 »
Hi guys

I was wondering what I could plant in place of the potatoes once they are lifted?

Onions and Legumes normally follow my Pots for crop rotation.

I don't want to waste a whole plot....

Cheers guys

Paul

to be contrary i say since the ground is now loose since you dug the potatoes
I go with carrots and other summer root crops like mooli

I think it's probably too late to sow seeds now, but i'm happy to hear a second opinion. Maybe you can buy trays of plants. And for future reference, although they say you can sow seeds direct, it's actually a disaster doing that, as are spring onions btw.
There's lots to sow though - all the salads, carrots, beetroot, winter radish, moolii, fennel, courgettes, chicory and endive (if you can tell the difference  :D ), dwarf french beans,  and at the end of the summer, normal radishes and the chinese leaves like pak choi

Thanks for all your suggestions!!

I will have a chat with the boss and then she'll decide  ;D

I don't think it will be Tomatoes as we are a blight hotspot and I have 22 plants in the polytunnel.

Thanks guys

Paul

My first earlies are being lifted and replaced with kale and brussel sprouts. My leeks didn't work this year and I have not found any plants so I might end up doing without I think. Probably get some pak choi in there later on and autumn corn salad (lambs lettuce).
2012 - Snow in February, non-stop rain till July. Blight and rot are rife. Thieving voles cause strife. But first runner beans and lots of greens. Follow an English allotment in urban France: http://roos-and-camembert.blogspot.com
