Leaves look like curly kale on plum tree!
« on: May 16, 2011, 18:50:58 »
Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my victoria plum tree please? The leaves on all the new growth are diseased, but Googling hasn't shown me what it could be.

Thanks

It could be  a plant Gall. They use the leaves as a host and it does no harm to the tree.
or maybe a Peach Curl type virus?

I was just about say that looks like greenfly damage..Have a look inside the curled leaves what's lurking in there..

We had something similar on a cherry tree outside the back door when I was a kid. It was always covered in blackfly, and it always produced loads of cherries.

I'd check underneath the leaves for greenfly or other sucking insects. pruning the offending branches off usually is the quickest remedy. then spray if its not too windy and the new growth should be ok.I find that ants farm greenfly about this time of year so a few greasebands might help  as well as drenching the soil with dilute clove soln. I boil cloves and dilute the soln in a can and drench the soil. Ants dont like it.I use the cloves for several boilings then mix the residue into the poly soil. Cut down the ants no end... ;)
