When to re-pot pond plants

I have just bought a lobelia sessifolia and its roots are growing through the sides of the aquatic pot. Is this the equivalent of being pot-bound for other non-pond plants? If so, would it be ok to pot it on now?

Hi caroline,
Perfect time I would say. If your plants are 3yrs. or more old then repotting will benefit.
I split my James Brydon lilly last week & donated 4 plants to the village fete. They shot off the stand!
