Yup it Science Fiction.

But what if it was not and you slipped into another time zone in the past. Could you survive?

If so How?.

Never the less if there was a person from the past who came to our time. Could they get by? Would Max Clifford sign them up? I think so. And any way they would be bound to get DHSS whatever.

There's nothing science-fiction about time-travel. Einstein's theory of special relativity predicts it, and it has been proven correct in experiments with atomic clocks. You can't go backwards in time, but you can jump forwards, so in principle there is nothing to stop someone from the past fetching up in our present.

Language would be a problem. Jump back 400 years to the Shakspearean period and English is bearly recognisable, another 200 years back and the English of Chaucer is pretty much a foreigh language, another 400 years and the English of Beowulf is totally unintelligable. I'd guess that even 100 years from now the language would be substantially different from today with loan-words from Asia and technology-oriented jargon, metaphor and idiom.

I do see the point Unwashed about language. I honestly have been there and forty + years ago I moved to Lancashire from Surrey.

As soon as some of the elderly locals found out they dived into a lanuage which has been lost in the annuls of time. to deliberatly confuse. Younger locals were just as confused as myself. Not like the cockney rhyming slang. We still use that abroad and speak fast.

However. I have travelled the globe without any knowledge of local language I have found that (because I had money..Not rich by our standards of course but wealthy by theirs) My holiday spending money talked. Sign language is pretty much universal. Coupled with a smile........Which is friendly.

No In all seriousness. I suggest that it is not possible for one person from the future to go back into the past and change the future from that journey.

Oh yes indeed if I knew I was going back a week a month or a year ...What ever. I certainly could find out which numbers to pick on the lottery. Or which teams would get the right draws on the foot ball pools and so on.

Unfair. The rightful winners wont get their money so it cannot be.

Natural law can not be changed.

My daughter and I both agreed we'd like to go back in time and re-do our teen years knowing what we know now.
We'd do it soooo much better we think.

No only different... life can only be lived forwards, and only understood backwards... but the chance to make some astute financial investments would be good!
