Topic: What seeds have you sown since new year

I live in the northeast and will start my 2011 seed sowing next weekend;  commencing with leeks, tomatoes and peppers,  onions will be late February.  Just wondered what people have started to sow in pots since the new year?  (Checking I won't be missing anything ;))

Started chitting a couple of tomatoes and peppers last week.

Started off some broad beans in pots to fill the gaps between the autumn sown ones. Sowed tomatoes and some Durata, Cleome,Dahlias and a few Cobaea (White this year).
Am now going to restrain myself from sowing anything else for a while ;D

I know some of you put onions in modules, would toilet rolls work and how do you plant them? All the way to the tip?

 Same here.  Just spoken to my potatoes chitting on  the bed in the spare bedroom.   Hope no one comes to visit without warning.

Onions, leeks, spring onions in modules (don't know about toilet rolls, but don't see why not) and sweet peas.

I'll put the shallots out sometime this month.

I'm leaving tomatoes for now, not enough light I don't think. But maybe in another week or two I'll start a couple off early just to see how they get on.

All the rest in March. March and April will be the big time for me. Usually have trouble coping with it and knowing where to put all the pots!

Onion and caulis (AYR) about 2 weeks ago in a warm greenhouse

Broad bean and elephant garlic 2 weeks ago in a cold greenhouse and Leek yesterday.  Bit worried about the bean and garlic as sitting in cold greenhouse so I spent yesterday sealing all the gaps.

Sowing spinach (Grandi, Toscan and Galaxy), detroit white beetroot, brussel and broccoli next weekend.

March will be slightly busier but April is going to be mayhem as I sow two each of 21 varieties of squash, 2 melon and 3 cucumber.  Where on earth will I put all those peat pots?  May have to get a parafin heater for the greenhouse as there is no way I will be allowed to keep 10% of that in the house.  Stay away jack frost

Same here too, but that's partly because I tidied up a couple of weeks ago & have managed to put the seed box 'somewhere safe'  ::)

I think i've moved it to the garage but risk being blown into the middle of next week if I try & venture out now to find it. Plus I haven't dropped enough hints about how nice it is having a house with lots of windowsills to prepare the other half for the sudden appearance of lots of pots  ;D

Sowed far too early last year & had stuff hanging around for far too long. Desperate though I am to start sowing, I'm trying to restrain myself!

nothing yet bought my first early pots yesterday will start chitting them soon got a few herb seeds and new pots for them to grow on the kitchen windowsill but nothing else planned yet

I asked about this a few months ago as I found it did not work well with leeks- the reason being the type of roots which onions and leeks have, they do not branch as much as normal roots and do not work well if planted out in the loo rolls. If you just use them to sow in and then transplant out of the loo rolls it may be ok.
I was sent a good link by David Miller which explained it well, and Robert Brenchley offered advice- maybe if you pm David he may send you the link- I'd rather not without asking first.

nothing yet here either. But I do plan to get round to some more Broad Beans, and will start some salads off indoors, but at the rate I'm going it will be late feb by the time I get round to it  ::)

Just a few herbs for the kitchen windowsill and some sweet peas- and onion sets, and i only did those this weekend.

Sixty Aquadulce Claudia. I've given up overwintering them because of waterlogging, but I want an early crop to help segregate them from Crimson-Podded Broad Bean, and Red Epicure. I can handle two flowering at once, and get seed off them, by planting them at opposite ends of the plot. I'm not so sure about three.

Did a tray of Aquadulce last week. Today I've done a couple of trays of Purple Broad Beans, plus lettuce, parsley, aubergines & peppers. Tomatoes - just a few early ones for the greenhouse - & sweet peas next. Early potatoes chitting away nicely. (I guessed Kev might have another challenge up his sleeve!)
