Wandering Ducks 2
« on: January 06, 2005, 19:20:58 »
Yesterday the weather at lighting up time was utterly appalling, blowing a gale and raining enough you would think to put even ducks off. Anne went out to collect the said birds from the pond. Not a single one in sight!. She wandered around the garden getting frozen and soaked. Not a dratted duck to be seen or heard. In she came and out I went, down the lane and on to the field behind us. Not a duck in sight. I was about to give up and leave them to be foxed, but I thought I'd better look in the drainage ditch on the far side. Guess what? Out popped a line of ducks. It took me ages to herd them back into the garden. they can get through the fence, but I had to go back round and along the lane. By which time they had decided that they were going to sleep on the pond. Eventually after much effort I persuaded them to come in for the night.
Tonight when it was just starting to blow and otherwise quite pleasant, they had put themselves to bed. B-----s!
Gardening is the great leveller.
