Lost Bert today
« on: December 28, 2010, 10:51:38 »

Had to let our Bert go today. He has been blind for around a year now but was managing very well if nothing was moved but for the last week he hasn't been himself and last night he went off his legs.
He was a rescue rabbit so we don't know his exact age but the vet said that he was probably about 9 yrs old.
She said that he wouldn't recover and it would be the right decision to put him to sleep.
We are going to bury him at the bottom of the garden with his first mate Belle and the budgie,
We still have his mate Alexis the white lionhead to look after. We are so sad
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Shirlton,

he looks a lovely and much-loved pet and you gave him a very good life.  I am sorry that he is no more and that you are sad.

Hello Shirl,it is awful when we have to say goodbye to our animal friends.

Hard to find comfort at times like these but take pride in the fact that you loved and cared for him and gave him a good Bunny life. Big hugs.

Sorry to hear that Shirl. We get so attached to our pets as they become one of the family and it is heart breaking when they are no longer with us.

I think you have been expecting this for a while, haven't you Shirl?  Knowing it's going to happen doesn't make it any easier though.

Big <<<<<hugs>>>>> from me.

Thank for alll of your kind words. They really do help. We did know that Bert was an old rabbit and I think that having to take such special care of him due to his blindness made him rather special. Towards the end he would get confused when he wasnt in his cage so every morning while I cleaned his cage Tony had to hold him and he got quite fond of him although he wouldnt let on that he had.
I have never seen him so upset over losing an animal.

That was one beautiful bunny. Shirl! It's so sad losing them. Not surprised that Tone is upset. Give him a big A4A Cynewulf! and you too!

Sorry to hear about Bert. Its sad news, but I hope it is a real comfort for you to know what a difference you have both made for him and without you his life would have been so different.

Just cannot believe that I had a sympathy card from the vet today. How nice.
