Looking for a picture
« on: November 12, 2010, 12:23:35 »
As I am stuck indoors twiddling my thumbs. I thought I would start the research for next years garden projects. Somewhere at some time I have seen a picture/painting/photo of a lady lying peacefully underwater, the view is directly from above looking straight into her face. I've googled 'ophelia','lady of the lake' and all possible words associated with the subject. I cannot find it anywhere, which makes me think it is not in the public domain.

So perhaps you have a copy/postcard/print/book with the image on.

To my memory she is a long haired ginger bird, very lifelike, dressed in white,  lying just under the water, arms crossed over her thruppeny bits and a few waterlillys dotted about. She might be wearing a floral tiara. The main colour is green and you would think it was victorian. It could actually be a photograph.

let me know if you have any ideas, as I am stumped.

Sounds like one of the Pre-raphaelite type of picture.

Your description sounds very familiar- I'm wondering if it could be a book cover ?  I also thought of fairy tales and did some googling myself but came up with nothing.  I did also wonder about the Lady of Shalott/

This must be quite a garden project you're planning!
Where will you get the lady volunteer?

Yes a wonderful collection.   I remember a water/floating girl picture but not with hands across her "thruppenny bits"  ( lovely expression) but holding a spray of flowers as above.
Hope you find it.

have a look here

Very near, I did find that one, but the one I am after is looking directly down, not a side view.

Already done the lady of shallot with no results, but thanks anyway.

I will have a look at the Birmingham collection, if I can get it on line.

Well if you are looking for a job, First you need to be a redhead, then go and fill your bath, get a bag of watercress to cover your bits and spare your modesty. Take a picture and post it in the watershed ;D

Don't ring me, I'll ring you.

I'd do it but where can one get a bale of watercress which, in my case, is what is required.

Ophelia in the brook seems quite popular a thing with young girls. Better than anorexia or Twilight I suppose

Still, you can't beat that tennis bird with no knickers on, scratching her bum. Now that's what I call Art

Google Agua caliente Coco Rocha for images.

This from the Saatchi Gallery is also an interesting take on Ophelia.

There are some good links coming on here, thankyou, keep it up. What a remarkable group of folk you are. I still hope the one I am after will turn up.

I am sorry but as yet the design is under wraps. But you will be able to dine out on the tale when it all comes apparent on the telly. But not until next summer.

Those who are not into art can also help with another project. I need a list of pink fluffy annuals, you never know I might have missed some of yours on my current list.

Oh ***ger ACE I know exactly the pricture you mean, and it is definitely something to do with the Lady of Shallot,  or something to do with Arthurian legend, and yes she's lying underwater.

My library is completely inadequate to find it, but I'll give it some serious thought.
