The Emperor is dead
« on: October 26, 2010, 21:46:18 »
Shame really, but according to some of the people in the know, he really had to go. He was seeing off all the young bucks that were trying their luck with his daughters and then having them himself.

This situation is not good as inbreeding will eventually weaken the herd. He had a good innings for a wild animal 12 years, I expect he had a few more years in him, but he died quick. Like I said it is a shame but how big would he have got without the protection us soft hearted humans to shield and manage his herd.

Well, was he killed as part of a planned and controlled cull?  If so, fine.  If it was just a 'trophy' shooting, I think it was wrong.  Either way, as you say, it is a shame.
