Both are top of the line..and I mean top when it comes to home preserving.
STOCKING UP Vol 3.. Carol Hupping this is the most recent update.Don't be tempted to get the original as it is now out of date and only good for comparison

PUTTING FOODS BY Vol 5 Ruth Hertzberg
Either one are excellent food bibles to have by you regarding food prep.
Which one is best..I don't think I can answer that truthfully, if you take preserving food seriously I would buy both. I have had Putting Foods by the longest so may be that is my favourite fro sentimental reasons
I have the originals and updates volumes of them both and use them equally.
Please buy the most up to date ones .
I cannot recommend these books higher.
