Topic: apple tree

just come home from the allotment after checking my fruit area discovered two youngish apple trees where small fruit has developed now most of the fruit has turned kinda black or even like a deep coloured blueberry. Any body know what this is or what to do with trees? Thanks

could be fire blight especially if there are cracks in the bark as well - you might want to check this out and see if your apple variety is susceptible

Are there any problems with the leaves? If the tree looks generally healthy apart from the fruit, it could just be what is known as "June drop". this is when the tree naturally discards fruit during June. You say your trees are young, maybe they've decided they aren't quite up to bearing lots of fruit this year.

Yeah..sounds like they might just died for to drop..as with any disease, there would be some sort of marks on leaves too..

sorry about the double/treble message not quite got the hang of this messaging. My long haired assistant was along this efftie and thinks all the leaves are dying of now too.

Hmm..if that is the case...it doesn't sound good...
now without really seing your tree..well..all leaves dying..sounds like the tree is dying..as for reason....there is several that can couse it..
but best you can do is remove all dead leaves, bin or burn them...give a good dollop of water for your tree...cross your fingers and hope it is not terminal..if nothing happens= no new growth by autumn,,you just have to dig it out and start again with new tree..but ideally on a different spot..

Agree with goodlife - but do check that you haven't left any ties around the trunk of the tree - sometimes if a tie is left on, the tree thickens up, we forget to loosen or remove the tie, the tree does well up until the point that the tie starts to cut off the water supply, and bingo one dying tree during summer.
