Hey hey,, so it lands in Wales, did the postie report you for molestation per chance?

Please don't fill it with leeks  or minature pumpkin seeds..

Mind you I could use a few bird scarers on my plot so if you have any Welsh scarecrow seeds tucked in your stash I could use a few.

Enjoy and have fun.

I will send you the next name.

Jeannine,

the parcel is ready and awaiting orders  ;D

I went to the post office to check the proper procedure for posting scarecrow seeds. The lady at the counter seemed quite disturbed by the enquiry and had to contact DEFRA for a definitive answer.

Anyway, they said that it would be unacceptable to pop the seeds in the swap box, due to the extremely high volatillity of the seed.

Apparently, when they have been sent through the post, occasionally, they have got wet due to the vast amount of inclement weather we get in wales. This has led to premature germination of the seed. Some postmen have suffered serious injury from the shrapnel thrown around during the excessively violent germination process.

So, I have been advised to sent them with a specialised carrier, who are used to dealing with such unstable packages. It wasnt cheap, but they guarantee that the seed will be with you before the end of the year in an ungerminated state.

They will ring you before they deliver, so they can be sure you will be in to receive the package, preventing it being left out in the rain.

I hope it arrives soon.

Thank you Caroline.. I might pop this info on a new thread so I can use it as a growing guide and let you know how it goes..Are you planning on planting them this year..they sound a bit scary..I wonder if they need special entry papers to emigrate.

I shall  look forward to getting them ..I think

Main parcel is on the move again..fortunatley thanks to Carolines common sense in no danger

carolinej,
you  a r e  a tease!

Doorbell rang, postman came with the biggest 'rattling' parcel ever!  Just as well he delivers from a van!  And it was superbly packed too!  Could have survived a rainstorm without any danger from exploding scarecrow seeds!

Thank you so much Jeannine, Jayb and everybody.  I may be some time ...... ;) :)

Enjoy Galina, take yout time.. yours is the last stop before Europe. PLEASE let me know if you need me to Paypal a few pounds over to got towards postage.

I will PM the next addy.

Oh I am getting excited myself now.

I will tell now the plans I have for it.

It is going to Ruud in Holland, he knows, and then back to Jayb so she can share anything as it was a dual parcel, then  back here if suiyably disguised as  something else.. Jayb is very good at that bless her heart.

Then I hope to find something  special for me just like you all did. After I take out what I shall use myself
the plan then is to sow as many UK varieties of veggies and flowers in the spring, pot on  and offer them to the Canadain gardeners  as freebies in our lottie who wouldn't have access to them easily, with the hope that they will save seeds and keep them going .

This is something that is done on our lotties each year, but this year thanks to you they will be offered something a little different . Hopefully the greenhouse at this end I have been given use of will continue on.

A lot of the plants will be used for growing  the free veggies for the local  food bank and a  soup kitchen in downtown Vancouver where sadly there are still street people. We have a large area in our lottie gardens maintained by everyone to grow  for these  two great causes. I may also grow some for the smaller soup kitchen at my local church if I can get another patch to do it.

I hope you agree  it is a good cause.

I am very excited to see what is coming back..

Thank you all.

And as promised I do have another parcel which will be going to the newer members fof  A4A but it is much smaller and more basic, the balance of that will go to a UK charity garden.

Thank you so much Jeannine!  Yes it will take another day or two.  Last night I googled squash 'Istanbul Kahak Sakiz', found a Turkish Wikipage with photo and Google translator made sense of it all!  Great fun!

I have been looking into couriers to the Netherlands and it is not prohibitively expensive for a tracked 3 day service, but thank you very much for your offer.  There are dried goji berries left and two very sorry looking and half squashed ocas, both are prohibited live plant material.  I will take the ocas out and may add a 'Joig bean' label, you know the lovely red coloured ones ;)  Or leave them out, or send them directly to Jayb, what would you suggest?  Perhaps pm me?  If you would like oca or gojis, Ruud and Jeannine, I'd be happy to send you some later this year when I dig my oca up.  I just don't want to endanger safe passage of the fabulous seed parcel.  Incidentally, it came in a box for trail walking boots, just to give you an idea of its size  :)

Thank you for sharing your plans for the seeds going back to you .  If you have any specific requests Jeannine, please pm me.  I could nip out to the garden centre if there is anything specific that is not already in the box.   A great project.  Passing on the fun and benefit to many.  Let's hope for continued safe travels of the parcel contents.  Thank you again.

Hi Galina thank you for the info, perhaps PM Jayb re the plants and see what she wants to do.It is good news re the postage. I am not comfortable with you popping off to bthe garden centre but if you have a cheapie Lidl or find some on a super sale I will leave that up to you. I am trying to encourage PSB, and parsnips, brussel sprouts maybe but please don't go to any expense. I get very little choice on these here. If you get any specifically for the project I think there is a bag in there for such as that.Of course anything that is heirloom or heritage goes down well if it is from the UK but I feel there will be loads in there already..Oh there is one thing,,for me..did you ever get that winter veggie we were talkng about a few weeks sgo, it seemed you had more choice then me..would you believe it I have forgotten it;s name..mind it id 6am and I haven;t been to bed yet, the one that has Vit as a variety..I ended up with none here, the rosette very small one..I better go to bed I think, please don;t go to anty expense.

And the amazing parcel is on the move again to Ruud in The Netherlands.

This has been the best seed swap ever.  Absolutely amazing.  It was a lot of fun and the best is yet to come.  Growing lovely produce and flowers from these amazing seeds and thinking of Jeannine and Jayb and all the other seed donors in the group.

Ruud,  have fun when the parcel arrives.   :)

Best wishes to all
