« on: June 06, 2010, 16:53:37 »
can someone please give me some advice on growing cucumbers, i grew them last year with good success.
this year again my plants are looking good but i seem to have loads more cumbers on the plants at the moment there is at least 10 per plant at the moment should i take some off to help the others to grow better or should i leave them alone, also are you meant to nip out the side shoots last year i just let the plants go mad  :)

I have read different ways of growing them, some train them up a string others let them ramble. If you were happy with what you did why worry ;)

As always - it depends!

1. Are they long or mini ones?
2. Are you picking as soon as they are of intended size?
3. Are you watering & feeding well?
4. Are they mostly on the main stem?
5. Are you allowing laterals this year?
6. Are they up-the-pole like these?

I find the minis safer.
