suttons seeds
« on: April 29, 2010, 16:12:39 »
I have usually nothing but praise for Suttons seeds but sorry to say I am now at war with them.I sent for some pot ready begonia plants in February. Yesterday they arrived. Instead of being 13cm. as illustarted they were just under 7cm.
I sent them an email and they said that the measurement was from the top of the plant including the peat pellet.
I sent them another email telling them that this was how I had measured them.
They sent me  a further email saying that they will soon grow when I pot them up.
Needless to say they had another email telling them that I was not satisfied with the plants or their explanation.
Waiting for their reply
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

 Hi Shirl,
I sent for some from Gardening direct, they arrived looking very healthy BUT a little smaller than yours  :o :o.
I potted them up & they are growing now just .
I know what you mean its unbelievable that they send them out so small.

Can you take a photo against ruler and send that pic for them..and you can "frighten" them by telling that you are going to report their actions to on-line gardening community....all good and bad companies are reported..ask them which way they want their name associated...
You should also say "how let down you feel as you have been previously so happy with their service and now against their own promises about the product, you feel that you haven't received adequate customer service, response nor standards were kept with purchased plants"...or something along those lines... ::)

Well in that case i would ask for a full refund.
Mine were 42 plants for £10.
No don`t stand for that Shirl tell em you will put it on the allotment site to tell us all that might make them take notice.

If the plants are not as described then they simply have to refund you and should in good faith compensate you for having to resource another more reliable supplier.
Frankly if not as described you must be covered by the sale of goods act.
The very least acceptable thing would be the to send you same amount of plants again if they were only half the stated size, but only if you are happy with that.

In the last email I sent them I did say that in the past I had been very happy with their products and had recommended them to friends. Tony said to save the cannons until the end. I am waiting for 2 more orders to arrive so if I don't get any satisfaction then I will cancel them even if they have been processed

This is the photo I am going to send to Suttons. As you will see the plants should be 13 cm.

My plants I ordered should have been 13 cm or almost 6ins.on the rule

Based on their plant size chart they have sent you 'easiplants' rather than the 'pot ready' plants you ordered. Their returns policy clearly states that if you are not happy with what you receive then you are entitled to a replacement or refund. The fact that the plants appear to be healthy & will grow just as well is irrelevant, you paid a premium for larger plants so that is what they should of sent you.

a. What is your returns policy?

All Suttons products should reach you in perfect condition, just as they left us. If you are dissatisfied in any way with their condition on arrival, please let us know within 14 days and we'll arrange a replacement or refund. We are only liable for the cost of the goods as quoted on the website plus the cost of delivery if the goods are faulty. For more specific information please contact us.

As they charge the same price for 60 begonia 'easiplants' as they do for 16 'pot ready' that makes the plants they sent you worth approximately £2.67. They may be willing to refund the difference rather than replacing them if that would be an acceptable compromise for you.

Just had this email

Thank you for replying to our email.

I appreciate your disappointment with the Begonia plants. They will grow on and provide a colourful display. As a goodwill gesture I have arranged to refund the cost of these plants.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

I suggested to them that I had been sent the easiplants instead of the pot ready when I thanked them for the refund Thankyou

I  also think they should send you the correct ones, but presume they are all rather small and they are hoping people will not notice.

It`s a result and well deserved. I have used Suttons over the years and found them to be reliable.

Staff have to be so careful these days-gone are those when someone would have admitted they cocked it up and keep the plants as well as a refund.

I well remember taking back a couple of trees from an ostensibly `good supplier` for this callow youth to start the spiel about referring them to their `specialist`

After a minute I lapsed into Cleese terms,

Specialist?? this in an ex tree,it`s dead, gone to fruit amongst the angels

I am disappointed with some plants bought on-line.  Begonias were past it on arrival.  Half the tagetes have died.  The geraniums which I buy every year have refused to grow and will bloom perhaps in September.  So I think there have been problems.  I also think the plants have been "frosted" in the postal system.  I am waiting for a reply to my email.

Well done Shirl, yes as we get older the less crap we put up with.
I still think they should have sent you some correct ones as a goodwill gesture. ;D ;D ;D
