Leeks
« on: April 01, 2010, 13:28:11 »
Was wondering what size module I need  to sow leeks in. Would ones that are 5cm deep be sufficient.

Leeks seem very tolerant of root disturbance, so it's not necessary to use modules. Sowing in a seed tray, or a big pot is fine if you want an early crop. Alternatively just sow them outdoors in an odd corner, and transplant to their final position once they are a reasonable size.
Nothing wrong with using modules, but a lot more time-consuming, and uses more compost.

I do them in standard trays with 24 cells... not that deep they do fine... Leeks are very forgiving..  :)

They look good fella, I sow mine in pots too and then transplant when they are pencil thickness...Still have about 30 left on the lottie so I had better think about getting them up as I need the space.
Villa villan and a two lottie nut...
