M&S Santini Tomatoes
« on: March 23, 2010, 11:08:31 »
Just popped into M&S to see if they have anymore unusual tomatoes ;)
and bought a packet of Red and Yellow Santini tomatoes (1.99)
They are cherry sized slight plum shaped and taste lovely !!
I will be seed saving these, I can't find them listed anywhere else other that at M&S btw.

Just thought i'd give it a mention incase anyone else fancied growing em too. ;D

As to its history it was the name of a character I played in an online game called 'Everquest'
The character 'Mortality Rate' was a female Dark Elf Necromancer, the name seemed apt at the time and has been used alot by me over the years.

Sound interesting, let us know how you get on with them.

I grew some Tomberries last year which I believe came from M&S. They were great, very tasty, be intresting to see what happens this year, although from the description I think they were very similar to the parent. I've also sown a few saved seed from 'Red Claret' and 'Golden Claret' again M&S tom. We will have to compare notes later on  ;D

and Mortality that's cheaper than a packet of seeds and you get to eat them first - now that's a bargain. ;D ;D

Save seeds from the ones you like best, and over a few generaions you'll develop your own similar variety.

My daughter brought home shared leftovers from a picnic, including a few Santinis.  They are hybrid, I think.  Nevertheless I decided to grow some of their seeds and they grew pretty similar fruit to the original.  Tasted very nice too.  Skin quite tough.

What was interesting was just how strong growing the plants were.  Really huge.
