I've lost Talk Sport
« on: March 09, 2010, 05:56:24 »
Something very strange has happened to my digital radio.  I keep it tuned to Talk Sport (yes, I know it's a bit mad because I'm not at all 'sporty' but I like the presenters and the chat)

Well, when I put it on yesterday it had re-tuned itself to Absolute radio, which I've never heard of and is all music.  I can't find a way of re-tuning because none of the buttons work now and I've lost the instruction book.  Even the display doesn't work.  I'm the only one who uses it so I can't blame my husband, or the scarecrow because he's still sitting in the hall.

It was only a cheapo from Asda and I've had my money's worth.

I miss Talk Sport!

I have just put "asda dab radio instructions" into google. One of the things it came up with is:

http://manualsbank.com/search.php?

What model is it?

Thanks InfraDig.  I looked at the site and they do seem to have a manual for it, but there is a charge and I'd rather get a free one!

Edit - just received an email from manualsbank -

The tariff for the research and download is US$ 42.85.

You've given me the idea now to search online for a (free) manual. Thanks. :)

It is an Alba TRDAB2820.

If it's a battery radio, it is possible the batteries are on their last legs.

DAB radios develop a bit of a mind of their own if the batteries are a bit 'iffy'.

It is possible that it has retuned itself and Absolute was the first station it came across.

Try cutting the power to it (either taking out the batteries and/or taking the plug out), then 'reboot it' and let it scan for available stations.  That should hopefully sort it.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

I disconnected it from the mains but it made no difference.

I think I'll have to get another radio - I'm really missing Talk Sport!

Oh how about one of those Wind up radios ?
Be nice to find out if theyre any good.
Please don't be offended by my nickname 'Mortality'
As to its history it was the name of a character I played in an online game called 'Everquest'
The character 'Mortality Rate' was a female Dark Elf Necromancer, the name seemed apt at the time and has been used alot by me over the years.

It should have a 'scan' button somewhere that sets the stations.  If that fails, try hitting it with a shovel.   ;)

Not your model but it appears that Argos own Alba and someone got hold of a free manual for an alba radio..

Thanks Nick, but none of the buttons on the set work because whatever I press, I still get Absolute radio.
It must be because it's alphabetically first on a list of stations I suppose, who knows.  I just want Talk Sport back!

try tweaking the aerial or move the radio somewhere else as there might be something nearby that's blocking the signal to talk sport - do you have freeview on your TV as it should be available there

Thanks calendula.  I fiddled with the aerial but it didn't make any difference, neither did moving it.  I must have the only radio in the world which is stuck on flippin' Absolute radio!
I can get Talk Sport on other radios in the house but they are too big for the space where my Absolute radio is.  Also have it on the TV but that's in another room.  :(
