Spreadsheet of planting/growing?
« on: February 26, 2010, 16:43:59 »
Does anyone use a spreadsheet to keep track of plants and their varieties, planting times, problems, harvest etc.,??

I was going to start one in Excel but I thought there's probably a product out there on the market or (even better) a freebie.

All ideas gratefully received!

A spreadsheet is a good way to do it. Another way would be to work out a table in a word processor. You could also use a Calendar like Sunbird.

Impressive!

Too much of a fuss for me, particularly when you consider the number of times I change my mind before finally planting out! ;)

But as I say your PDF is impressive!

I have a spreadsheet and list the plants in alphabetical order.

I have columns headed:

Plant    Variety     Held     Sown     Where     Transplanted     Notes

My first on the list under Plant is Aubergine.  Variety Black Beauty.  Held is if I have the seeds so I enter yes, ord(ered) or leave blank if not ordered.  Sown is the date they were sown.  Where would, in this case, be Indoors or Greenhouse.  Transplanted would be Greenhouse or if going outside, the plot number.  Anything relevant can go under the Notes column.

My plot is divided into 6 areas so I can rotate as desired.  I start a new spreadsheet for each year and keep the old ones as a reminder for crop rotation purposes.

I also draw an outline of the plots by hand and then enter where I am to grow everything.
