There's nowt so queer as ....pets??!
« on: February 13, 2010, 18:37:46 »
I had bought an RSPCA "Donut" bed for the kitten I ended up not getting. A few days ago I put it on the floor in the kitchen while I was cleaning the worktops and then forgot all about it. Within what seemed like seconds my cocker spaniel was curled up comfy as you like in what I would have thought was far too small a bed for her!! She'll sleep nowhere else now!!

So if I get another kitten looks like I'll need another bed!

Hahaha! How fab! "See, you don't need a cat-I fit in here perfectly."
Your dog is lovely Anne.  :)

Spaniels have expressive eyes, don't they, and that one eye is definitely saying wot Emmy's written above. What a wonderful pic!

Both of our cats had beds - ours ;D  It's what cats do ;D

We bought several different beds for our cat but he never used them, he has his places, such as in my wardrobe, in the corner at the top of the stairs or on his chair where nobody else sits because it sort of his now.
Im the gaffer in our house, the missus said i could be.

WOOdy, we always suspected that ours had a second home - it's yours, innit? ;D

The wardrobe was a special trick. I'd hang my dressing gown in there last thing, get into bed...just dozing off, then came the muffled, plaintive meeeow let me out cry..thing is, I knew she loved doing it but I never ever saw it happen ::)

I once re-upholstered an armchair - brass studs and everything. Kits took great interest in the doings over the time it took and then, when it was finally finished, immediately jumped on it, turned round, made himself comfortable, zzzzzed off...and it was his chair for ever more. ;D

There you go, Anne..why deprive yourself any more?

Oh, and Russian Blue cats iz The Best, btw...or have I said that before? ;D

What a lovely pic, she looks so comfy. :)

I saw on another thread that you had to take her to the vet, how is she now?

Not too great, thanks. She's going back this morning. She has either pulled a muscle in her back or it's a slipped disc. She got shots of anti-inflammatory and valium yesterday so that kept her going but she's all shivery again this morning. Appointment's at 9.50 so not long to wait.

Nothing more pathetic than a poorly spaniel!

We had Jack Russel that used to sleep in a cats bed. Animals know what they want ;D
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Well I've left her at the vet's. They're going to xray her back to see if there's anything obvious. I've to phone at 12.30 to see what they find and should get her back at 6.

The house is strangely empty without her.

Hope the spaniel is OK!

Just a note if she hasn't done any obvious damage when she has been out or in the house.  My friends Yorkie had this and went what one can best describe as "wobbly and walking wonky" well her vets did an Xray and could find no damage.  I said, as my over the road neighbour's black lab had similar problems that my vet told her was disc damage and to keep her caged at all times which she did fo 3 weeks until the dog was screaming in pain and she was just about to give up on it and have it put to sleep she then went to Bristol vet teaching hospital where, basically, they saved her life but she was hospitalised for ages and had numerous return visits.) to get her vet to check for meningitis which this vet did and immediately put her on anti biotics prior to getting the tests done.

Luckily she did get the anti biotics and steroids in and the dog was diagnosed with meningitis and is now fully recovered.  So just be aware that these symptons are sometimes masked and overlooked.

I hope it isn't the above but best to be ahead of the game as it is treatable if caught early.

Good luck

Old Bird

Thanks for that. Good to know. Mind you she was fine yesterday then I heard her yelping upstairs and it was after that that her back seemed sore so I suspect it's something physical. Her temperature yesterday was quite normal.

Really hope it is good news. Re animal beds, I have been looking after young Lorna's cat this week as they are on holiday. Lorna bought Laura a sheepskin bed which hangs on the radiator. Laura hasn't been very happy with me when I have gone round early each morning to put her in the garden for a while. Such comfort!!

Well so far so good. The xrays were clear so it's not a disc problem or arthritis or stuff like that. So they reckon she's pulled a muscle and have given me 10 days' supply of anti-inflamatories/painkillers and sedatives. I'll just have to see how she goes. Only about £275 so far. Aren't you glad we've got the NHS!!

That's good news, apart from the cost!

Is she a very active dog?
