NO... February is historically the coldest month, not January.. remember last year's snow in Feb? Don't rush the season will start in March, early for the South and later for the North...

I satisfied myself with a good sort out of the seedbox and a read through the catalogs..

ive just washed my clay pots  :-*and popped in the local garden centre to get a few bits and bobs ;D


really cant wait for my first season  went down to the allotment as well the weeds are only half an inch high so soon as it dry out will soon have those buggers up >:( then im gonna put some feed into the soil and wait ;) ive already limed last year for when the brassicas go in etc

i really cant wait i will upload some photos when i get a chance

Been to the plot for the first time since the big snow and to our delight the enviromesh frames and the netting over the broccoli was intact. Had been having nightmares about everything being flattened down. Had a nice surprise when I saw some romanesco staring to bud up from an extra planting we made later in the season. The only downer we had was to find that some one had pinched one of the tubs we got last ready to grow our carrots in. All in all a pleasant day.

becuase you can oftern get caught out late feb early march with some really hard weather.

I always try to hold back but frankly the windowledges now have seedlings and even a dahlia tuber on the go already!

I had to deal with this misconception a while ago on and Imps board.  From 1971 to 2000 the average temperature for January in Sheffield was 6.4.  In February it was 6.7.  In Sutton Bonington (Leics) it was 6.9 in January and 7.2 in February.  February is the second coldest month after January.  You can check here: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/averages/
