Well someone has to eat and if you look closely at what it has, it appears to be the remains of a goldfinch.

Would this be carrion, Palustris? The bird looks frozen, doesn't it.....wonderful pics as usual.

Crows will kill a sick bird, but they wouldn't be able to catch a healthy one. It was probably either dead or dying.
