What errors are you getting?

I tried it from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ and clicked on the free download.
It downloaded quicktimeinstaller.exe, double clicked on that and followed the instructions.
I am on windows 7.

If you're running Vista, try right clicking on the quicktimeinstaller.exe file and run as administrator, that may help.

It keeps telling me that   "the installer encountered errors before the requested operations for quick time could be completed."
I am running xp home & had no trouble installing it on my laptop

Try turning off your virus checker before installing it.
Apart from suggesting that I wouldn't know what else to try.
Maybe an expert will be along soon...

I know this might make me sound thick but why do you want to install Quicktime just because you bought an iPod?

I would have thought iTunes would have been your first priority?

How odd. Usually it installs with itunes. Try uninstalling itunes and then download itunes again. Make sure you go for the XP option. Other than that i just don't know. I find googling the error message is sometimes quite helpful.  :)
