Problem plant.
« on: January 01, 2010, 18:57:00 »
OH bought me an indoor clematis from Wyevale. It's called peppermint & should be green in the middle. It looks very unhealthy. I keep dead heading it but the flowers look dead in the middle. Should I return it?

Sorry I don't know much about clematis - I didn't know you could get indoor ones.

Do you trust them enough to ask them at Wyvale's? If they say it's normal to go like that in winter, you could ask them if they'd replace the plant in spring if it's still poorly.

This is what Peppermint should look like:

if it doesn't, then your plant may be faulty. I know it's supposed to grow well indoors, but it also grows outside, so I'd suggest that you move it into a cooler room and see if that helps. It's been forced into flower now - it should flower in summer. this may mean that it's effectively in shock, having been moved from a false greenhouse summer to your home.
