Hard Water in Polytunnel
« on: November 30, 2009, 11:04:43 »
I am almost finished building my polytunnel and have purchased an overhead irrigation system. One thing concerns me though. The water in our area is very hard. The chances are that it will choke up valves and nozzles over time. But a far more serious problem is how this is going to affect the pH of my soil. I assume I am going to have a constant battle here. I presume that I cannot use conventional water softening systems as these use Sodium Chloride (common salt) which will lead to a different set of problems over time. I'm not really in favour of rain water in a polytunnel because of potential water borne diseases. So I'm stuck unless someone out there has managed to overcome such problems. I would really appreciate some help with this.
