Where my wife's family originated. They're Jalis (the traditional musical clan) but they don't practice.

I've never made it, unfortunately. One day I will. Timbuktu once had a university comparable to the European universities of the time. A lot of the books are still there; it would be a fascinating place to visit.

I've seen some wonderful photos from Mali, and it looks amazing. It's on my places to visit too Robert, unfortunately the list is rather long and the pennies rather short in comparison  :)
