Topic: What is the best compost for seeds?

Gonna start of some seeds over the next few months in a proporgator on a windowsill - what is the best compost to get them started off well?

Bark-based standard seed sowing compost for me. Add a little per;ite or vermiculite if you are sowing seeds to stand outside over Winter (like say Paeonie or Daphne seeds).

I have always used multi p. compost peat based with either sand or pearlite.
But this last year I used peat based seed sowing compost ready in a bag off the shelf and had a better result.

I try and try and try every year to use bark based, but for me it's the pits.  I pound it to make smaller bits  (maybe a tad of frustration coming out here) but it still is US.  I just fall back on my own home made riddled 3 year old stuff from the pit,  and with one or two "Old Wives Tales" bits thrown in.   :)

Where do you get your bark based compost from? The stuff Iuse is as fine as any of the standard peat based composts and better than some of them.

I made the mistake of using some cheap muti purpose from Wyvale for potting compost - it was full of twigs and too coarse (OK for mulching, though). This year I will spend the money on good stuff for seeds, as my own is nothing to write home about, and get loads of free muck from my local equestrian centre to bulk up the beds.
