cucumber- sideshoots.
« on: July 31, 2009, 23:42:21 »
Hi all
just been reading gardeners world things to do this week.  I've just noticed it says trim sideshoots from cucmbers.  i've always just let my cucmbers grow away whatever way they want and just supported them along their tendrils.  However have never had good crop.  Partly due to mildew i think.
have two plants in the greenhouse this year and same as usual a few but not many ( i keep reading of other people not keeping up with what their plant is producing).
i have had a few days were plant has wilted and lost baby cucs on the plant  but always assumed it was due to poor weather  and stress ( window flew off the greenhouse in a storm . So now i'm wondering if i should have just one main stem - like tomatoes.  Would this be better for the plant.   If so can i just leave the strongest shoot now .
