A4A day out at Wisley
« on: July 16, 2009, 17:25:36 »
Last year Paulines7 organised a day out at Wisley and Eristic, Raisedbedted, OllieC (plus family), myself and of course Pauline had a great time, walking around the gardens and getting to know each other.  We even had a bit of a seed swap over a cup of tea.

Would anyone be interested in a day this year?  Ollie and I batted around quite a few dates and came up with Friday 21st August.  Hopefully Ollie (plus family), Eristic and I will be there, unfortunately Pauline won't be able to make it - and where are you Raisedbedted ???

Wisley is lovely, there is so much to see, the veg beds are immaculate, umpteen different varieties of rhubarb, gorgeous flowers and shrubs, and the hot house is definitely worth a visit.  And of course, if you have money to burn, like we all have, and don't mind paying full whack for seeds - the choice is ENORMOUS.

Here's the link to Wisley http://www.rhs.org.uk/whatson/gardens/wisley/index.asp.  Last year we met at about 10 - 10.15 at the tables near the entrance, and then when all the introductions were over we walked ... and walked  ... and talked.  And there are picnic areas, as well as self-service cafes.

It would be lovely to have a larger group of us this year and maybe make it an annual event.

 :) :) :)

Should be fun... don't forget the trial beds, always worth a visit, and the different prunings for fruit bushes...

Always fancied going to Wisley, quite a long way, but would like to give it a go if the weather looks good enough for driving.  It would be very nice to meet up with some moe allotmenteers.

You should come! What is it, about an hour & a half from your part of the world? The roads shouldn't be too bad - school hols & Fri. morning...

I used to regularly go that route - family over that way.  M25 a bit of an issue after 4pm especially on Friday. What's it they call it the worlds largest free circular car park.  Much later the traffic eases but driving for over and hour into the setting sun no joke.

Was once going that way and managed to see the breaklights ahead of me and turn off.  Someone else I know got stuck for 6 hours.

Another time I got stuck for three and it was a terribly hot afternoon.  My daughter has fits if she gets too hot, so I explained this to a lorry driver.  He was brilliant and made sure that I could stay with him, and for the next three hours he made sure my car was in the shade of his lorry.  There are some very nice people out there.

Any day in August but the 21st for me :'( It's OH's birthday and asking him to walk around Wisley would be the same as asking him to stick pins in his eyes.

Maybe next year - have fun.

Oh yes, there's Ollie and family, Eristic, myself + No. 1 son and cousin from Italy.  Hope you (and anyone else that's nearby on that day) can join us!

If you can, pm your mobile no, and I'll pm you mine so we can co-ordinate meeting up.

Hope the weather is good  :) :) :)

Just seen the weeks weather with Tomasz and he has 'promised' a hot day on Friday.  Don't understand why but they seem to get it better sometimes on Sunday than later in the week.

So I will be sure to bring my raincoat.
