Any hints/tips??

I know they can be grown(indoors) as I have seen them just a few miles North of here but mine look pathetic.

They are in a soil bed against a west facing wall in one of my green houses-no that`s not a typing error,I had a house built to include a wall.

It`s not lack if water as the cucumber I have amongst them is going well

I have some too. Lost the packet so started them off rather late. Been on a south facing window sill, and I forgot about them, but when I went to look they are doing remarkably well. Any hints very welcome.

Mine were a disaster last year, I put it down to the weather....................they 'aint doing much better this year!
Have them in full sun this year as I thought they love the heat! ???

Mine are still in the root trainers as i have not got round to planting them out and they are going outside and can take there chances !

Mine were cr*p last year, seedlings looked great this year, planted out and they disappeared this this year same as last year. >:(

I tried them this year; they germinated and looked good on the windowsill, then keeled over and died as soon as they went to a mini greenhouse.

This all sounds a bit like `okra`-the difference being I have seen them cropping..

Must try harder??

Mine too. Nice healthy seedlings, turned their toes up as soon as they went outside.

Mine are outside - started off on windowsill and planted out 2 weeks ago, round a wigwam and covered with a fleece wraparound. Took the fleece off today on the grounds the weather has got about as tropical as its likely to get! They look all right so far...... fingers crossed.

Decided to grow them up some sweet corn. Twelve corns plants, twelve beans, seemed logical to put them together. If the beans fail I still have the sweet corn.

failed last year and put it down to the weather. so this year planned to grow them in the greenhouse and started them nice and early in the conservatory where they were growing beautifully till greenfly took them out :-\. plan not to bother with them next year and to stop myself trying I'll put them in a seed swap later this year.

on another note my ohcro was doing especially well till i moved them into the greenhouse early June and into their final growing positions IE black buckets. then they all keeled over and well...... died ::).

but I'm willing to give them another go as i definitely saw these cropping in a greenhouse in Kent not far from my town.

I had twenty four Okra... with true leaves, a first for me. I put 6 in the sale which sulked in the torrential rain and died. Planted 12 into the greenhouse border and all but 4 died. Put the last 6 into black buckets and have lost one, possibly two... I take it they hate being disturbed.... :-\

Yes you may have a point there, i was also thinking this and was thinking to either sow direct into the black buckets next year or into paper pots which can then be planted with out disturbing the plants much. not sure how or if they would cope with being moved from the conservatory to the greenhouse though.

by the way when did you sow yours? i sowed mine back in Feb to give them as long a season as possible.

I've always found that okra transplants with ease. What compost are you using?

Just Multi-purpose Erisitc... but they were fine until we tried to do anything with them... are they prone to foot rots? :-\

Mine failed like a big faily thing last year so I didn't bother this year - looks like they are a bit problematic

well my okra were great last year (except i hated them)
as for yard long beans well we will wait and see,
at the moment they are growing in the ground and still alive.
they were started on the window cill
