Don't quite understand the question.

And surely NO feed until the fruit sets??

Pinkflamez, the chillis or peppers will grow next to the leaves, not under the soil.  First you'll see flower buds then flowers.  When the flowers have been pollinated, the petals will drop off and you should be able to see a tiny fruit where the petals were.  This is the 'fruit setting' and it's when you start feeding the plants.  Ordinary tomato food is fine - read the instructions.

Nicely put, Ceres.

And eventually, this is the sort of thing you'll get.

I just can't wait for my chillies and peppers.  I have been feeding them tomato food and they seem to be doing OK, no peppers yet though, only flowers.  :( :( :(
