Has anyone grown broad bean stero. I bought it because I thought it was self supporting but I have just looked for info & they need support. It says on the packet they (more veg) grow as a triple row which helps the taller ones to support each other even on a windy site. As a triple row what space is needed between each row? It grows to 90cm. Am I to late to sow sutton B/B.

Further to this post, I have never grown broad beans before, but this year have grown stereo. Mine are about120cm tall with little beans on the lower ex flowers. Should I pinch them out now? and allow the new shoots from the bottom prosper?

I have never grown that particular variety but to answer your question......leave enough space to get a hoe into.........so about 8"-10" should do!

I have grown stereo - nice small white beans. I don't grow any BBs with supports and they do okay. This year - overwintered Aquadulce and beans look to be ready in 2- 3 weeks and just sown some more Red Epicure.

I grow my BB in a square (about 8" between) with canes on the outside and string between them forming a diamond pattern. That seems to work. We are a bitty blowy here in Aberdeen so support is needed.

I don't pinch mine. Blackfly on the tips won't do the plant any real harm.
