Topic: Onion White Rot and Daffs

I bought a sack of daffs today to plant on the plot to provide springtime colour for the house and the plot, but then Doris Pinks, the voice of doom asked if they might suffer from white rot as my onions do.  Will they?  Should I plant the daffs in my already overplanted, overstocked, overbulbed garden??  :-\

Daffs do suffer from some viruses and something called basal rot that attacks the bulb, no idea though if this related to White Rot or not though. I would guess not though as onions and daffs are a different species I believe.

Onion rot attacks only onions. It does not attack Narcissus. They are not only different species, they do not even belong to the same family. Onions are Alliums and Alliums are in Alliaceae. Daffodils are Narcissus ans Narcissus are in Amaryllidaceae. Clear as mud that.
By the way according to one book Onion rot is very specific and attacks only one type of Allium. Unfortunately if the conditions are right for one form of it, say that which goes for garlic, then you are likely to eventually see the arrival of other forms, so bye bye leeks and onions and chives and ciboule and tree onions and even the ornamentals ones.
